Vantage Point (2008)

Thomas Barnes and Kent Taylor are two Secret Service agents assigned to protect President Ashton at a landmark summit on the global war on terror. When President Ashton is shot moments after his arrival in Spain, chaos ensues and disparate lives collide in the hunt for the assassin. In the crowd is Howard Lewis, an American tourist who thinks he's captured the shooter on his camcorder while videotaping the event for his kids back home. Also there is American TV news producer Rex Brooks, relaying the historic event to millions of TV viewers across the globe. As they and others reveal their stories, the pieces of the puzzle will fall into place - and it will become apparent that shocking motivations lurk just beneath the surface.

Taxi Driver (1976)

The film stars Robert DeNiro as the main character, Travis Bickle, a violent taxi cab driver alienated from society. Bickle becomes interested in a woman named Betsy who works for a presidential candidate, and tries to attract her attention, but is unsuccessful. Rebuffed by both society and the object of his affection, Bickle decides to assassinate the presidential candidate so that he may win Betsy's admiration. He is never able to get close enough to the candidate, however, to complete his assassination attempt. Bickle then becomes interested in saving Iris, a young prostitute played by Jodie Foster. He goes to the hotel where twelve-year-old prostitute brings her customers, and shoots her pimp, the hotel manager, and a client, rescuing Iris from the horrible environment. At the end of the movie, Travis Bickle holds a bloody finger to his temple, acting like a man who is blowing his own brains out. In the context of the movie, however, it is a gesture of triumph. Travis Bickle is a hero.

Mississippi Masala (1991)

The curtain opens on Kampala, Uganda, circa 1972. Attorney and political activist Jay (Roshan Seth, Vertical Limit, Monsoon Wedding), his wife Kinnu (Sharmila Tagore), and young daughter Mina (played as a child by winsome Sahira Nair) are Ugandans of Asian Indian descent, descendants of workers imported by the British in the 19th century to build Uganda's railroad system. When dictator Idi Amin rises to power, he begins a purge of Asians, blaming them for the country's economic woes. (Sound familiar? Bigotry may change its colors, but rarely its rhetoric.) As Jay's childhood friend Okelo (Konga Mbandu) tells him, under Amin "Africa is for Africans…black Africans." Their home and possessions seized by the government, Jay and his family emigrate to England.

Leap forward to 1990. Jay, Kinnu, and Mina (now played by Sarita Choudhury, A Perfect Murder, 3 A.M.) have taken up station in America—Greenwood, Mississippi, to be precise—amid a community of Indian expatriates. Jay helps run the motel where his family lives, while Kinnu manages a liquor store. Mina, now 24, works as a housekeeper at the motel and longs for escape from her humdrum life.

That life takes a dramatic the morning Mina accidentally rear-ends a van driven by Demetrius (Denzel Washington, Training Day, Antwone Fisher), a handsome African-American man who owns a carpet cleaning service. The two are immediately drawn to one another, and before long they are dating. They carry on their relationship openly in front of Demetrius' skeptical father Williben (the marvelous Joe Seneca, Crossroads, A Time to Kill) and randy business partner Tyrone (Charles S. Dutton, who also co-starred in A Time to Kill), but hide their feelings from Mina's family—especially Jay, who harbors resentment against blacks, stemming from the injustices he suffered in his homeland.

Lovers' secrets never remain secret, of course, and when Demetrius and Mina's affair occasions a violent confrontation with members of the Indian community, the couple must choose between their families and heritages, and each other.

After burning to death in the munitions factory he was commanded to destroy, a reluctant CIA operative strikes up an uneasy bargain with the devil--he'll lead the armies of Hell in their war against the earth in exchange for the opportunity to see his wife from afar. Available in the original theatrical version and in an R-rated director's cut.

Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) return as partners on the Miami Tactical Narcotics Team in director Michael Bay's (PEARL HARBOR, ARMAGEDDON) sequel to the 1995 blockbuster BAD BOYS. Car chases and shoot outs are daily occurences as the two try to track down a big time Ecstasy dealer. The trail leads to Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla) a Cuban immigrant who runs the biggest drug cartel on the East Coast. The stakes are raised when Marcus discovers that his sister, Syd (Gabrielle Union), an agent for the Drug Enforcement Agency, is working undercover trying to bust Tapia as well. And to further complicate matters, Syd and Mike have become involved romantically and are keeping it a secret from Marcus. Jam-packed with massive explosions, wild chase scenes, and flying bullets, this wild ride is filled with action and violence. Smith is charming as the quick-tempered, fast-talking Mike, and Lawrence is his ideal counterpart as the stressed-out Marcus, who resorts to therapy tricks to keep calm. Joe Pantoliano reprises his role as Captain Howard, who is livid about the trail of wrecked cars and damage his boys leave behind them.

Ti (Stephen Chow) is a poor father who works all day, everyday at a construction site to make sure his son Dicky Chow (Xu Jian) can attend an elite private school. Despite his father’s good intentions to give his son the opportunities he never had, Dicky, with his dirty and tattered clothes and none of the “cool” toys stands out from his schoolmates like a sore thumb. Ti can’t afford to buy Dicky any expensive
toys and goes to the best place he knows to get new stuff for Dicky – the junk yard! While out “shopping” for a new toy for his son, Ti finds a mysterious orb and brings it home for Dicky to play with. To his surprise and disbelief, the orb reveals itself to Dicky as a bizarre “pet” with extraordinary powers. Armed with his
“CJ7” Dicky seizes this chance to overcome his poor background and shabby clothes and impress his fellow schoolmates for the first time in his life. But CJ7 has other ideas and when Dicky brings it to class chaos ensues.
