A key technology focus for ABB is to help our customers optimize the
productivity of their assets by minimizing downtime. Shutting down an
automated production line to reprogram a robot is pretty costly, and

of Robotstudio. ABBïs new simulation and off-line programming
software allows the robot to be programmed on a PC without shutting
down production.

Using the Robotstudio virtual controller, an exact replica of the
real ABB robot controller, the robot programmer can create robot
programs on a PC and test different alternatives in the digital
òrobot cell¦ to find the best solution. Which means new robotic
solutions can be evaluated before the systems are in production, or
even before they are built. It also enables certain complicated jobs
to be automated that were previously out of bounds to robots purely
because of the lengthy online programming time required.

What is more, with Robotstudio robot programs can be prepared in
advance, increasing the overall productivity of the production
system. Either way, off-line programming maximizes the customerïs
return on investment and makes production planning far more
efficient.

In practice, Robotstudio is already proving a winner on the
production floor by halving programming times. Discovering mistakes
and dealing with them on the PC, is another important cost-saver.

To extend its functionality Robotstudio uses Microsoft Office
applications. For example, it is easy to export data to Excel.
Available in English and German, the software includes customized
templates that enable support for special processes.
