Slide guitar originated in the early 1900's in the Mississippi Delta region with players such as the legendary Robert Johnson. This expressive technique soon migrated to Chicago and was popularized by players like Elmore James and Muddy Waters. Slide guitar was then adapted by rock guitarists who added distortion and a more aggressive sound.
